The Double Oak Town Council on Monday evening adopted the 2014-2015 fiscal year maintenance and operations budget which goes into effect on October 1, 2014. The council also voted unanimously to maintain the current town property tax rate of $0.224810 per $100 valuation. Double Oak’s property tax rate remains one of the overall lowest in Denton County.

Some highlights of the adopted budget in public safety are as follows:

Fully funds the needs and requests of Chief Derrick Watson and the Double Oak Police Department. With the growth within our town and the surrounding areas, the number of resident calls for police assistance is substantially increasing year over year. The council, with resident support, has funded for an additional full-time officer to provide more coverage and support.

The council has funded the budget request of Chief Joe Dent and the Double Oak Volunteer Fire Department and for EMS ambulance service. The 100% all volunteer fire department depends heavily on Double Oak resident’s annual fund drive and what they clear from the DOVFD 4th of July event. The Double Oak Women’s Club also raises money throughout the year for the DOVFD.

Administration, Court and Public Works Departments:

These departments have been funded and the approved budget provides for some street repairs and drainage improvements.
